I once read that no one as a child dreams of becoming a Real Estate Agent; you sort of stumble into the business. What an accurate assessment of how I personally became involved. Eight years ago, I became a Real Estate Agent to fill a void in the industry; namely a void that was personally affecting me.
Roughly, nine years ago I was looking to buy my first home. I contacted a few of the well known agencies in the area to aid me in my search. I met with various designated agents, described my search criteria and thus began the home hunting process. What should have been an exciting experience was actually quite disappointing and frustrating! No matter how specific I was on the type of home I wanted, no one seemed to listen. Perhaps out of sheer desperation to sell they kept sending me to view houses either out of my price range, or in the wrong neighborhoods, or with different layouts (frame instead of brick, no parking, 2 bedrooms instead of 3, etc.). I could share some real horror stories.
After 14 months of endless searching and WASTED TIME, I took matters into my own hands. I took a real estate class at a local college because I couldn't understand why buying a house was so difficult. My Professor was GREAT! I became excited again about the prospect of owning a home.
I went on further and took the Licensed Sales Persons Class, took the tests, and became a Licensed Sales Agent. Shortly there after I found my first home directly through a FOR SALE BY OWNER sign.
Now, eight years later I live in the neighborhood I once dreamed of and I have helped over 100 other families realize their dreams. Instead of working for a Real Estate Company I teamed up with a local Investor and gained my experience buying, renovating and selling his properties. In a three year span of time I renovated and sold 89 properties!
During my fourth year in the industry, I decided to branch out on my own to better service families in their search throughout the boroughs. I am humbled by my success. I feel blessed to have stumbled into the industry. I take GREAT satisfaction in knowing that my efforts have now helped others realize their dream of moving. It has been an honor to serve them and I can only hope to continue using my determination to help.
